Mikel Arteta has said he is visualising lifting the Premier League title with Arsenal this season.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League table with two games to go, a point ahead of Manchester City having played a game more than their title rivals.

The Gunners are aiming to keep alive their title challenge at Manchester United on Sunday, as the North Londoners look to keep in contention for a first Premier League title in 20 years.

At his pre-match press conference, Arteta was asked what he would do if he was offered a contract that ensured Arsenal would win the league if they win each of their final two games.

“I would take that pen and sign it. My brain always takes me to the place where we are lifting the Premier League. That is where my brain is at the moment. So I just follow my brain and my gut. This is how I feel and this is the way I want everybody to think and hopefully we can achieve it.”

Arsenal have been the closest competitors to Manchester City for the second straight season, with last season’s treble winners targeting a record-breaking fourth Premier League title in row.

On the challenge to compete with the Citizens, Arteta added: “We are in the journey to try to catch them. It makes you better always when someone challenges you to go further and further.

“The recent history of City has been of winning trophies. As an opponent they have been unbelievable over the last 15 years, but we want to change that. We are doing everything we can to improve [to challenge them] and are getting better and better. We have done very well this season and hope we can do the same [against Manchester United] on Sunday.”
