Serie A round up: Roma prevail in seven-goal thriller | OneFootball

Serie A champions Roma continued their impressive run of form with a victory in Sunday’s seven-goal thriller against Inter Milan. Second-placed Juventus also enjoyed success, recording a 2-0 win over Fiorentina in Monday’s away clash.

Roma 4-3 Inter

Evelyne Viens slid the ball past Sara Cetinja to give Roma a seventh-minute lead in Sunday’s contest. Inter restored parity just after the half-hour mark as Elena Linari inadvertently directed the ball into her own net.

With momentum in their favour, the visitors quickly found a second through Lina Magull. The German midfielder latched onto Marija Milinković’s pass to fire a low shot beyond Camelia Ceasar. Inter then gifted Roma the chance to pull level, with Saki Kumagai pouncing on Cetinja’s weak pass to round the goalkeeper and slot home her fifth league goal of the season.

With the score at two goals a piece, Agnese Bonfantini produced one final moment of quality in a thrilling first half. The former Juventus forward raced onto a rolling ball to send a sublime lob over a helpless Cetinja. Valentina Giacinti then pounced onto a loose ball to slot home an 80th-minute winner, representing Roma’s 10th victory in 11 league games.

Fiorentina 0-2 Juventus

Sofia Cantore headed home from Lisa Boattin’s drilled cross to give Juventus a narrow half-time lead. Barbara Bonansea eliminated any lingering doubt over the result when she found the net in the 87th minute.  After creating space on the edge of the box, the 32-year-old unleashed an unstoppable strike to score her third goal of the Serie A season. Juventus are guaranteed to finish in second spot, while Fiorentina will have to settle for third place.

Sampdoria 2-0 Napoli

Sampdoria prevailed in Sunday’s home clash with Napoli to end a four-game winless run. Tori DellaPeruta thumped home from close range to give Sampdoria a 14th-minute lead. The forward then cut inside on her right foot before curling a superb strike into the top corner.

Napoli’s disappointing afternoon was compounded when Marija Banušić was sent off in the closing stages. The visitors remain in the relegation playoff spot and just three points above basement side Pomigliano.

AC Milan 1-0 Como

AC Milan extended their unbeaten run to eight Serie A matches with a narrow win over Como. Angelica Soffia scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 27th minute. The 23-year-old rose high to steer her header home from Valentina Bergamaschi’s deep delivery. Milan saw out the remainder of the contest to claim their first clean sheet since March. The hosts stay in fifth position, while Como are eight points further back in seventh spot.
