Athletic Club president explains Unai Simón’s absence from squad vs Sevilla | OneFootball

An explanation for the absence of Unai Simón from Athletic Club’s latest matchday squad has on Sunday evening been provided.

Athletic, for their part, are currently locked in action, in the club’s penultimate outing of the campaign.

The Basque giants have welcomed Sevilla to San Mamés for a La Liga clash, eyeing a first win in three.

Such efforts, however, will come sans the contributions of one of the club’s most high-profile figures.

As alluded to above, upon Athletic Club’s squad to face off with Sevilla being unveiled earlier this evening, star shot-stopper Unai Simón was nowhere to be seen:

Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s final home outing of the season, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Simón’s whereabouts was put to Jon Uriarte.

And Athletic’s president went on to reveal that the call was a ‘technical’ one, on the part of boss Ernesto Valverde:

“The absence of Unai Simón is a technical decision by Valverde.”
