Manchester City, together with City in the Community (CITC), honoured a significant moment in the Club’s history with the selection of the Trophy Bearers to celebrate City’s fourth successive Premier League title.

As a nod to the upcoming 25th anniversary of the 1999 Division Two play-off win against Gillingham at Wembley, Club legend Paul Dickov alongside City in the Community participant Michael Crowther presented the Premier League trophy to the 2023/24 Champions.

Scottish striker Paul Dickov achieved legendary status at the Club during the 1999 play-off final after scoring a dramatic injury time leveller, forcing the penalty shootout which would see us return to the First Division.

Since that infamous final at Wembley 25 years ago, the Club has gone on to win six League Cups, three FA Cups, three Community Shields, a UEFA Champions League title, a UEFA Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and now, eight Premier League titles.

With almost 200 appearances for the Club on top of the iconic goal in 1999, fans delighted in seeing Paul present the Premier League trophy to the 2023/24 winning squad.

Our second Trophy Bearer Michael Crowther, age 61 from Reddish, is a CITC participant who has been attending ReminisCITY sessions for several years.

ReminisCITY aims to create a dementia safe environment for fans to enjoy social and physical activity, through the conduit of football and Manchester City.

As a huge City fan, one of Michael’s favourite matches to discuss at ReminisCITY is the Gillingham game of May 1999; especially during sessions focused on sharing recollections.

Manchester City has always played a big role in Michael’s life, and presenting the Premier League trophy to the Champions alongside Paul honoured his long-serving connection to the club.
