At the age of 37, Dries Mertens is coming to the end of his career. The winger has won seven trophies in his time and made over 100 caps for the Belgian national team. After just under 10 years with Napoli, Mertens left Italy to join Galatasaray in the summer of 2022, missing out on Napoli’s Serie A victory by one year. Mertens scored an incredible 148 goals and provided 90 assists in 397 games for Napoli before moving on.

Mertens grabbed seven goals for Galatasaray and provided four assists in his first season, as many believed he was coming to the end of his career and ability to produce on the pitch. Fast forward another season, and Mertens is having his best year campaign since the 2018/2019 season. In 34 league games this season he has scored nine goals and provided an incredible 18 assists, the most he has ever produced in a single season. In 82 games since joining the side, Mertens has scored 19 goals and provided 22 assists in just 82 games.

Mertens was a fan favourite in Napoli and is clearly endearing himself to his new fans in Istanbul. He could be set to add another trophy to his list of accolades with the side six points clear at the top of the Turkish top flight with just two games to go.
