Getafe boss demands action after Mason Greenwood subjected to ‘die’ chants | OneFootball

Getafe head coach José Bordalás has made crystal clear his frustration with the lack of support afforded to Mason Greenwood during his side’s meeting with Alavés.

Getafe are fresh off making the trip to Mendizorroza, for a La Liga meeting with Alavés on Saturday night.

When all was said and done, the Azulones were condemned to the wrong side of a 1-0 result, owing to a solitary strike on the part of Carlos Vicente.

And yet, in the aftermath of the clash, it is not matters on the pitch which have taken their place front and centre in the headlines.

Instead, as much comes in the form of ongoings in the stands at Mendizorroza.

Getafe winger Mason Greenwood was subjected to a series of abusive chants over the course of the 90 minutes on Saturday.

With 18 minutes on the clock, the clash was momentarily halted, after calls of ‘Greenwood, die’ rained down onto the pitch.

However, the chants did not come to an end there, with the on-loan Manchester United man having been forced to grit his teeth and play through.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the fresh abuse directed at his attacking star was put to the aforementioned José Bordalás.

And, in his response, Getafe’s boss took firm aim at the team of officials to have overseen proceedings in Vitoria-Gasteiz, adamant that the matchup should have been brought to a 2nd, more prolonged stop, to allow his players to return to the dressing room:

“They have sung “Greenwood die” and the protocol says that when it happens a second time, the game has to be stopped and the players have to go to the locker room. I have read it. And the referee has not done it. If they are the first to not comply with the protocols, it will never stop.”
