A report in the Italian media reveals when Inter Milan will finally announce the contract extension of club captain Lautaro Martinez.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via FcInterNews, the Argentine will pen a new contract at the end of the season.

As the pink newspaper explains, the management put the extension on ice awaiting a solution on the Oaktree loan. Many sources expect club president Steven Zhang to find an agreement to refinance the debt before its expiry on May 20th.

Moreover, the Nerazzurri are keen to finalize the new contract with Martinez before he departs for the Copa America.

Therefore, the source believes the end of the season will be the perfect timing for the announcement.

The two parties have often reiterated their desire to prolong their collaboration for many more years.

The new contract will also include a pay rise. The striker will likely earn 9 million euros per season as net wages starting next season.

The report adds that the new deal won’t include a release clause. This illustrates the player’s intention to remain at Appiano Gentile for years to come.

On another note, GdS reveals that some suitors had contacted the player’s agent Alejandro Camano recently. This includes Paris Saint Germain.

Nevertheless, the Inter captain closed the door on all attempts to lure him away from Milano.

The 26-year-old has recently led the Nerazzurri towards their coveted second star in his first season as club captain.

Despite his current goal drought, he remains the runaway leader in the Serie A scoring charts with 23 goals to his name.
