Thought to be from a friendly match between Stabæk and Hønefoss, the clip shows players from the latter team entering the pitch before kick-off.

They encounter a bank of ice around the pitch, and have no choice but to slide down it.

One player decides to slide down the ice on her back, while the others skid down on their feet.

The video is captioned: “How football players in Norway enter the pitch”.

What has been the reaction to the viral TikTok?

Toppserien’s clip has gone viral on TikTok, accumulating more than 1.4 million views.

Many viewers have compared the scenes to Chelsea’s match against Liverpool in the Women’s Super League, which was abandoned in the sixth minutes after it became clear the match was being played on a frozen pitch.

One TikTok user tagged Chelsea star Erin Cuthbert, who suffered a particularly bad fall against Liverpool, and wrote: “Is this what you felt like playing against Liverpool”.

Another commented: “pov: it’s the Chelsea vs Liverpool wsl game”, while a third wrote: “At least they don’t have to worry about pitch invaders”.

Others queried how the players would then exit the field after the match, with one TikTok user questioning: “okay, but how do they get off the pitch”.

Comments on TikTok about Norwegian football players sliding on ice

The video was also shared on Reddit, where viewers expressed concern about the potential of a player getting injured.

“I’m at a point now where I find this less ‘oh how charming they’re like Nordic sport penguins’ and more ‘oh good heavens what a workplace safety violation they’re going to hurt the Nordic sport penguins’,” one Reddit user wrote.

Another commented: “All I could think of was ‘someone’s gonna do their ACL on that’”, while a third posted: “That's ridiculous. Why haven't they cleared the ice? The players are risking injury.”

It certainly is a unique situation which not many football players will encounter, and the video has subsequently split opinion among social media users.
