Goalkeeper – Bert Trautmann

The German came to Britain as a Prisoner of War during WWII and signed for City in 1949.

He will forever be a part of club and, indeed, football folklore for famously playing on after breaking his neck during the 1956 FA Cup final.

They don’t make them like Bert any more.

Right-back – Pablo Zabaleta

Zaba never shirked a tackle and literally shed blood for the club on countless occasions.

He scored the forgotten first goal in that game against Queens Park Rangers and will forever be an adopted Mancunian hero.

Left-back – Glyn Pardoe

A local lad, Pardoe became City’s youngest ever player when he made his debut in 1962 at the age of just 15 years and 314 days old.

He went on to make the left-back position his own in one of the most successful eras in the club’s history, winning the First Division title, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Uefa Cup Winners’ Cup.

And his City legacy lives on through grandson Tommy Doyle, who made his first-team debut earlier this season.

Centre-back – Aymeric Laporte

Pep Guardiola wanted to make Laporte one of his first signings when he took over at City in 2016 but the Frenchman wouldn’t end up making the switch from Athletic Bilbao until January 2018.

It was worth the wait though, and after taking half a season to settle in, Laporte was brilliant as City clinched an unprecedented domestic treble in 2018/19.

Centre-back – Vincent Kompany

City fans could never have known when Kompany joined for a cut-price fee from Hamburg in 2008 that they were looking at a future club legend.

The Belgian took some time to settle in Manchester but the city soon became his adopted home, and it was in the second half of the 2010/11 season that he truly began to blossom into the world’s best central defenders.

He headed home the only goal in a crunch derby against Manchester United towards the end of the 2012 season and after lifting the club’s first Premier League title that year, he would lift three more along with six other major honours before leaving last summer at the end of his 10th season.

But not before scoring one of the greatest goals in City’s history as a parting gift

Midfield – Yaya TourĂ©

City fans thought they were signing a world class defensive midfielder when Touré joined from Barcelona in the summer of 2010, but they ended up getting so much more.

The Ivorian added drive, power and incredible technique the middle of the park and not only did he score 79 goals during his eight seasons at the club, he scored some incredibly important ones too.

TourĂ© was one of the most influential players in City’s history and if the club had its own version of Mount Rushmore, his face would undoubtedly be on it.

Midfield – Colin Bell

They still call him The King at City, there’s a stand at the Etihad Stadium named after him and for a while, he was undisputedly the best player in the club’s history.

Bell joined City from Bury in 1966 and went on to form a holy trinity with Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee during the successful period under Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison.

An England international, Bell wowed onlookers with his incredible stamina, speed, dribbling ability and eye for goal.

Midfield – David Silva

The diminutive playmaker took some time to settle in Manchester but it was a goal against Blackpool in the October of his first season which would prove to be his big arrival on the English stage.

He has never looked back since then and his wand of a left foot and incredible ability to constantly be in space has been a fundamental part of City’s success in recent years.

He is arguably the Premier League’s greatest foreign import and inarguably City’s greatest player of all-time.

Forward – Tommy Johnson

Most City fans born this side of the Second World War may not have even heard of Johnson, but a look at the record books will tell you why you should.

The striker joined the club in 1919 having previously worked as an apprentice in the local shipyard and he went on to spend 11 years at Hyde Road.

A left-footer with a powerful shot, he holds City’s record for the most goals scored in a single season (38) and is third on the club’s all-time scoring chart with 166.

Forward – Eric Brook

With 177 goals in 493 appearances, Brook held the record as City’s all-time leading goalscorer for 78 years.

He spent over a decade at City before retiring in 1939 and helped the club to the FA Cup in 1934 and the First Division title in 1937.

Forward – Sergio AgĂŒero

AgĂŒero took to the Premier League like a duck to water and scored 30 goals in his first season – one of which has gone down as one of the most famous in football history.

The goals have continued to flow over the years and in 2017, the Argentine scored his 178th City goal in a Champions League game against Napoli which meant he surpassed Brook’s record to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

His tally currently stands at a whopping 254 goals for the club and the three trophies won last season means he has lifted 10 major honours since his move to Manchester.

He is one of the Premier League’s greatest ever foreign imports and City’s finest ever striker.
