The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have approved plans for teams to now use five substitutes per game.
The change is a temporary one as clubs look to return from action amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Players across Europe have not played for two months but are soon likely to return to action. In the case of the Bundesliga, teams have only started training together in the last day or two but matches will resume next weekend.
The sudden change to the laws has now been ratified by IFAB.
Teams will still only be able make changes at three different times during a match, in order to prevent time wasting. These three opportunities don’t include half-time.
FIFA have said the change comes as a step to “protect player welfare”.
An extra sub will also still be allowed in any games that go to extra-time.
