Mauricio Pochettino has insisted the future of Raheem Sterling is between Chelsea and the player as speculation grows over a possible summer exit.

Sterling arrived at Chelsea for £50m in the summer of 2022 and signed a five year deal which sees him a earn a reported £325,000 per week making, him the club’s top earner.

It’s safe to say the England international hasn’t lived up to expectations and has so far failed to replicate his Manchester City form at Stamford Bridge.

Pocehttino states Sterling future is between him and the club

Despite scoring seven Premier League goals in 29 appearances Sterling has found himself out of favour in recent weeks with Mauricio Pochettino preferring to go with Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke in the wide areas.

The 29-year-old has been booed on multiple occasions this season by his own fans for what they deem to be a number of unacceptable performances.

His equaliser after coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest would have gone some way to getting the fans back on his side, but questions have surrounded his future given he’s not established himself as a first team regular.

Sterling was back amongst the goals against Nottingham Forest.

Pocehttino was questioned on Sterling’s future and insisted it was between him and the club.

“I talk about all the players, all the players have contracts next season”, he told The Independent.

“Thiago [Silva] has announced he is leaving but all the players who have contracts are going to be there and always it is two parts, the club and the player that needs to decide for the future.

“It’s a good season for him, he has scored and assisted many goals if you compare with last season, I think he has improved a lot this season, if you compare with last season.”

Sterling divides opinion and many fans would be happy to sell him this summer if a suitable offer came in, with known interest from Saudi Arabia.

However, the reality is unless Sterling takes a huge pay cut no potential suitors are going to pay him what he’s earning at Chelsea which puts the Blues in a difficult position.
