FC Bayern suffered a 4-2 defeat at TSG Hoffenheim in the final match of the season. The Reds led 2-0 inside six minutes, but Hoffenheim managed to turn it around after that. "It was a painful and unnecessary defeat," bemoaned Thomas Tuchel, for whom it was his last game as Bayern coach. The result means FCB end the Bundesliga season in third place. "We'll put this behind us now. I want to get out of this season and into the new one," commented Thomas Müllerfcbayern.com has gathered the rest of the reaction for you.

Reaction to the match at Hoffenheim

Thomas Tuchel: "We started very well but then made a string of individual mistakes and didn't dominate the game as much anymore. In the second half, it was okay again to begin with but then there were too many individual mistakes again. We allowed the opponents into the game. We didn't defend well enough, which is how we gave away a 2-0 lead. It was a painful and unnecessary defeat, which has happened far too often."

Manuel Neuer: "The match had ups and downs. This season in general, we've also had good periods and not so good, so maybe it's fitting. We were running on empty. We wanted to finish second, which unfortunately we've not achieved, so we're obviously disappointed. It's been a difficult season for all of us. A fresh start is needed, also from our side, the team. It's clear it can't go on like this. Consistency has been the biggest problem this season. We need to show a different side in order to be able to really go for it again. Everyone has a duty."

Thomas Müller: "We weren't good enough over the 90 minutes. It's a bit frustrating that in that brilliant opening period, we gifted a goal away. We certainly helped them. The two goals at the start gave us a good position and a good feeling, but as the game progressed, we gave up more and more of the play and were far too passive in our structure. It's happened again and again that we've lacked aggression. We now want to get out of the season and start again in the summer. We congratulate the new German champions Leverkusen and I say that with all due respect. We'll put this behind us now. I want to get out of this season and into the new one. I would also like to thank the coaching team, who have put everything into it. We now look to the future."

Matthijs de Ligt: "It's hard to say what the reasons are. We started very well, had the game under control and then gave away the goal for 2-1. We knew that Hoffenheim still had a chance of Europe and then the people in the stadium get behind the team. The equaliser came from a throw-in and we lost our way. It's been like that all season. We play well and then not well again. We're very unsatisfied with the season. When you don't win any trophies as FC Bayern, it's not good and it's even worse than you're only third."

Reaction from the Hoffenheim camp

Pellegrino Matarazzo (Hoffenheim coach): "It was a special game and a special day for the TSG family. We were asleep at the start and Bayern were on it, but then we turned it around. That's symbolic of the whole season. We've experienced a lot of setbacks and have kept getting back up. Great credit to my boys, they were fantastic today."
