However, Newcastle very much second best in the first half.

OneFootball Videos

Sheffield United knowing they were effectively already relegated and playing with a freedom that saw them dangerous throughout the opening 45 minutes.

The visitors very unfortunate to be only level at the break, having taken the lead and created half a dozen other great chances.

Four goals though in 20 second half minutes saw Newcastle burst into life and show a quality the visitors couldn’t live with, especially when it comes to finishing.

Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.

Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.

(The Whoscored automated ratings can only show four subs at any one time with how it is laid out, Alexa Murphy was rated 6.1 by them).

As you can see, nine of the twenty two players who started the match received a rating of 7.0 or higher.

Seven of those nine playing in black and white.

Alexander Isak (8.7) rated top man, a superb first goal and cool penalty, plus some silky skills on show running with the ball.

Gordon (an assist and won the penalty) next highest rating of 8.5, then the excellent Bruno (my man of the match) 8.4.

I thought Jacob Murphy was really poor today, apart from a great pass for Isak’s first goal, but he was next highest with 8.2.

Whilst Burn (7.6), Dubravka (7.4) and Livramento (7.3) the others to get 7.0 or better.

I actually thought Hall (6.9) on the left had a better game than Tino on the right.

Coming off the bench and scoring a usual level goal, Callum Wilson (7.3) also scored highly.
