Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen open talks for Girona star | OneFootball

Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are moving forward with a move for a key member of the midfield ranks at Girona.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, citing Girona-based journalist Ivan Quirós, who point towards Aleix García as the player in question.

Garcia, for his part, is in the midst of a stellar campaign in Catalunya, which has seen the midfielder play a pivotal role in Girona’s record-breaking endeavours.

All told, the 26-year-old has featured in all but one of the Blanquivermells’ 34 La Liga outings, chipping in with three goals and six assists along the way.

Such efforts have long piqued the attentions of clubs in his home country of Spain, with Barcelona, for one, named as keen on García’s services.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday is anything to go by, the versatile midfielder could soon find himself plying his trade away from Spain.

This comes amid claims of intense interest on the part of Bayer Leverkusen.

As per the aforementioned MD, the German giants – in the midst of a historic unbeaten campaign – have identified García as a priority target for 2024/25.

Not only that, but Die Werkself have gone as far as to table an opening proposal, in the region of the €20 million release clause included in the player’s Girona contract.

Talks between the clubs are in turn at an ‘initial’ stage, but considered as being very much ‘on track’ towards a deal.
