A Game For The Future

While a league title is at stake in the here and now, tomorrow’s Glasgow Derby is, in many ways, a game for the future.

Victory for Celtic would all but crown the Hoops champions and enable them to bank another £60m. This would mean that Celtic would have circa £150m in the club accounts, which could allow them to spend considerable sums on improving the team. A cynic, such as myself, wouldn’t hold his/her breath on that, but with that increased revenue even a small percentage of funds would help to improve the team.

On the contrary, if Celtic were to lose the title then the other side of the city would almost certainly spend and look to push on, however wise that may be.

The balance of power in Scotland is firmly with Celtic and this title triumph would emphatically confirm that things remain that way, at least financially. The opposite would even things up.

Defeat isn’t curtains for the Bhoys as Celtic would still likely remain top on goal difference, but win this game and the future is not only green and white, but those tight purse strings might be loosened to a level not seen before (even if they’re not opened to the level that matches the ambition of the support).
