Carlton Palmer has urged Sheffield Wednesday to go after young Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper James Beadle again this summer following an impressive half-season loan spell with the club.

The young keeper joined Danny Röhl's side in the January transfer window after spending the first half of the season on loan at Oxford United in League One.

He quickly became the first-choice for the Owls in-between the sticks, and he has impressed with his on-ball ability and talent for making improbable saves.

Journalist Alan Nixon revealed via his Patreon account over the weekend that the Owls are keen on bringing Beadle back for a full-season loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

He added that another Seagulls shot-stopper could be leaving the Amex Stadium this summer, as Swansea City pursue another move for Carl Rushworth, who played every game for the Welsh side in the 23/24 season.

Former Owls midfielder Carlton Palmer was emphatic in his belief that the club have to go and bring the teenage keeper back to the club for the next campaign.

"Wednesday are set to hold talks with Brighton about re-signing Beadle on loan. This is an absolute no-brainer," Palmer said when speaking to Football League World.

"He has been absolutely outstanding has the 'keeper. I was there to watch him against West Bromwich Albion where he made a lot of stunning saves.

"The 19-year-old is going to be a very good player, without a doubt. He's tall, although he's not filled out yet. But when he does fill out he's going to be strong. He's very athletic and good with his feet too. So it's an absolute no-brainer.

"I think that he has enjoyed his time with the club. I think it's almost certain that Brighton will let him go out on loan again. It's important for his education that he plays regular first-team football.

"He's a very young man with a calm demeanor about him, and I was very, very impressed with him.

"Wednesday may enquire about buying him, but, at the very least, they'd want to do a season-long loan. He came in during the January window, and they will try and get him in for a whole season - it's an absolute no-brainer."

Signings like James Beadle will be key to keeping Danny Röhl happy at Sheffield Wednesday

Bringing in Beadle was the first move that the German coach made as manager, and it certainly proved to be a successful one.

These are the sorts of smart decisions that Röhl has made that have made him so coveted. He is currently wanted by both Sunderland and Hull City, as they look to try and find their new leaders.

The 35-year-old holds all the cards. He is the reason why Wednesday aren't a League One team right now, and, therefore, he has a lot of power over the club.

If they fail to give him what he wants, there are plenty of teams that would take him. But deals like bringing back Beadle would certainly make him more happy about staying.
