Arda Güler has not had the easiest of starts to life at Real Madrid but he is now hitting his stride, scoring on his first La Liga start for the club in their 1-0 win at Real Sociedad.

The 19-year-old has struggled with injuries all season and competition is incredibly strong for starting spots in Carlo Ancelotti’s side but tonight he got his chance with Jude Bellingham and Vini Jr. rested among others ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich.

He took it inside half an hour, finishing smartly after being picked out by a brilliant sidefoot volleyed pass from Dani Carvajal.

It followed on from his late goal in a 4-0 win over Celta Vigo last month, which came inside a minute of his arrival on the pitch. Judging from tonight, he is certainly using his minutes and opportunities well.

Real held out to move 14 points clear of Barcelona as they close in on the La Liga title.

The news of Güler’s return to form and fitness is also a major boost for Turkey with the European Championships kicking off in just over six weeks!
