Brazilian presenter Benjamin Back reports (via CNN Brasil) that Palmeiras want to sign Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus.

Given Jesus’ high salary and the probability of a similarly hefty transfer fee, Back claims the club want to bring in the centre-forward on a loan deal.

Palmeiras president Leila Pereira is reportedly behind the push to sign Jesus, as she’s hoping to have him in the squad for the Club World Cup in 2025.

The expanded 2025 Club World Cup event will include 32 teams and take place between June 15th and July 13th 2025.

In the CONMEBOL region, the main method of qualification is winning the Copa Libertadores, which Palmeiras did in 2021.

Arsenal will not take part in the competition, as Europe’s method of qualification is winning the Champions League.

There are other spots available to high-ranking UEFA sides, but only two per country, and Chelsea and Manchester City are already qualifying through their Champions League wins.

Recent reports have suggested that Jesus’ future at Arsenal isn’t guarateed, and the club would be willing to listen to an offer for him in the summer transfer window.

But the justification for that is that it would raise funds for a potential centre-forward signing. If Jesus would only be going on loan, there’s really no reason to let him go.

You can see why Jesus might want to go back to Palmeiras, to play for his old club from his home country in a major tournament and perhaps give them their first Club World Cup trophy.
