La Liga outfit Athletic Club have this week been dealt a considerable blow.

This comes amid confirmation that head coach Ernesto Valverde will not be present on the touchline for either of the club’s next two outings.

Valverde, for his part, was shown a red card over the weekend, during his side’s La Liga meeting with Getafe.

Late in Athletic’s 2-0 triumph at the Estadio Coliseum, the former Barcelona boss made his bemusement with a spot-kick awarded against his side known.

Referee Jesús Gil Manzano reported in his official post-match minutes that Valverde’s dismissal came:

“For leaving the technical area with arms raised and loudly entering the field of play making waves with arms as a sign of protest. Previously, he was warned on several occasions to stop the protests.”

And, as alluded to above, such actions on Valverde’s part have cost him dearly.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing a release on the part of La Liga’s Disciplinary Committee, the Spanish tactician has been sanctioned with a two-match ban.

Valverde, in turn, will be forced to sit out Athletic Club’s upcoming meetings with both Osasuna, and Celta Vigo.
