In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona are working on renewing the contract of Pau Cubarsi. It has been stated that the Catalan club are close to renewing the contract of the Spanish centre-back as they look to keep hold of him for the long run.

Cubarsi is having an impressive campaign at the Spanish club after putting in a series of solid displays at the heart of Xavi’s defence. The 17-year-old has made 20 appearances for Barca this season, securing one assist on all fronts.

The talented teenager has been a decent performer at the back based on his average of 1.3 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 91.3% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Catalan club will expire in the summer of 2026. Hence, it makes sense for Barca to tie him down to a new, long-term contract soon.

Barcelona Are Working On Renewing Cubarsi’s Contract: Good Move For Both Parties?

Cubarsi is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.84m, the Spanish talent can be a dominant presence in the air as well. He has already proven himself to be a capable presence in Xavi’s defensive department this season. Thus, it is only fair to the player if Barcelona reward him with a new and improved contract.

At 17, Cubarsi has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, renewing his contract would be a decent move for both the player and the Catalan club as they look to bring more success back to the Nou Camp. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level.

Still, Cubarsi has the ceiling to play for Barca for years to come, so Xavi should focus on tying him down to a fresh, long-term contract.
