The first fixture awaiting La Liga giants Barcelona in next year’s Spanish Super Cup is now official.

As much comes after Xavi’s troops confirmed their place in the tournament on Sunday.

The Blaugrana of course welcomed Rayo Vallecano to Catalunya’s capital last night, ultimately emerging on the right side of a 3-0 result.

This ensured that Barca remain four points clear of 3rd-placed Girona in the La Liga table, with just one round of fixtures to play.

The former will, as a result, play their part in the next edition of the Supercopa de España.

And Xavi and co. are already aware of the first test that awaits, in the semi-finals of the competition.

With the Spanish top-flight runners up pitted against the winners of the Copa del Rey, Barcelona have been pencilled in for a meeting with ex-manager Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic Club.

The winner of this tie will then face off against one of Real Madrid or RCD Mallorca in the Supercopa finale.
