One player consistently linked with a move to Manchester is Bayer Leverkusen right-back, Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutchman has enjoyed a stellar season in Germany with Leverkusen on the brink of one of the greatest achievements in football history.

Xabi Alonso’s men have already secured the Bundesliga title and remain unbeaten in all competitions and on course for a remarkable treble.

Frimpong is one of many players that have caught the eye and his €40 million release clause leaves him in danger of leaving the club this summer.

As reported by football expert Christian Falk, Leverkusen are currently doing all they can to persuade Frimpong to sign a new deal which would either include a higher release clause or remove it completely.

Should the defender put pen to paper at the BayArena, the Bundesliga champions could demand a fee that would be designed to warn off potential buyers.

With United working under stricter FFP regulations this summer, a price higher than €40 million might well prove too much for the Premier League side to stump up.

However, Falk confirms that United “remain interested” in the 23-year-old and Frimpong would be open to discussions should INEOS make a bid in the coming months.

Erik ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford is also a key factor with the 54-year-old a consistent admirer of the player, having earmarked him as a transfer target since arriving in Manchester.

The FA Cup final at the end of the month will go a long way in deciding Ten Hag’s fate with the team tasked with beating Manchester City to secure a 13th triumph for United in the famous competition.
