The Tractor Boys were able to make their game in hand over Leeds United count on Tuesday evening, beating Coventry City at the CBS Arena, knowing that a point against Huddersfield Town on the final day would end their 23-year exile from the top flight.

And while full focus will remain on the task at hand, the wheels will already be turning ahead of next season, with a number of difficult decisions to be made on the ins and outs at Portman Road.

Within Kieran McKenna's current squad, nine players will see their contracts expire in the summer, while five players who have been instrumental in their campaign will return to their parent clubs.

During Ipswich's impressive Championship term, everyone within the squad has played their part to get to this stage of the campaign, but each of the loan players are among the standouts.

Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Travis, Jeremy Sarmiento, Brandon Williams and Kieffer Moore all arrived at different points in the season, but their impact has been felt all the same.

But for Rovers midfielder, Travis, his arrival at Portman Road was one met with a bit of surprise, having captained the Lancashire club for the first part of the season and was seen as an excellent addition to McKenna's already talented squad.

But with Sondre Tronstad's impressive form since arriving at Blackburn in the summer, the 26-year-old sought a move away from the club he had made 200 appearances spanning across seven years, with former manager, John Dahl Tomassson, revealing that he had wanted to leave during the summer transfer window, but a move never materialised.

Travis' departure allowed financial space to be made for new arrivals, and his time at Portman Road has often been viewed from the bench, making nine appearances, which has totalled to 333 minutes of football.

While not having a similar impact when compared to some of the loan arrivals at the club, Travis has failed to lose a match he has featured in for the Tractor Boys, and could be a potential option for McKenna to explore next season should he want to bolster his midfield options.

But, it will come at a cost. The midfielder signed a new deal with Rovers two years ago, keeping him at the club until 2026, meaning Ipswich could look for cheaper, alternative options with more top flight experience, should they reach the Premier League.

While Blackburn's Championship status is yet to be confirmed going into the final day of the season, they will be hopeful of remaining in the second tier and looking to put this turbulent campaign behind them after off-the field issues have seemingly affected performances on the pitch.

Travis will return to Ewood Park in the summer, but Rovers manager, John Eustace, will have a wandering eye to see how the 26-year-old has done during his time at Ipswich.

Despite only playing a minimal part since his January switch, he will be valued as an important player if Rovers are to improve next term, with the Lancashire club having one of the lowest average aged squads in the division.

While only being in his late 20s, the midfielder has amassed over 200 games for Blackburn in all competitions and, up until his departure, was the club captain, so he is obviously well respected among the players within Eustace's ranks.

It remains to be seen whether Travis will move on in the summer or remain at Ewood Park, but Eustace will have to ensure he is the one who makes the final decision, and should he stay with Rovers, could prove to be a pivotal player in his first season in charge of the club.

But having set his heart on a move away last summer, it could offer the opportunity for Blackburn to cash in on the midfielder and reinvest in the squad.

Eitherway, an eye at Blackburn has to drift onto Ipswich and how Travis' situation has developed, before they decide what comes next.
