Bordeaux president Stephane Martin has called reports linking Malcom with Arsenal ‘hot air’.

The Brazilian youngster has been heavily rumoured to be on his way to north London in January, with some publications insisting that Arsene Wenger’s side are willing to pay €49.5m to bring the striker to the Emirates Stadium.

The 20-year-old is seen as the Gunners’ long-term replacement for the departing Alexis Sanchez, however the Girondins chief has insisted that the Premier League outfit will ‘struggle’ to take the striker off their hands this month.

“Things are clear with his agents,” he is quoted as saying by the London Evening Standard.

“We did not sign him to an extension and tie him to something, to let him go this winter. We have never had a discussion with Arsenal.

“From our point of view, it is nothing but hot air. They can always try, but they will struggle to take him from us.”

Malcom has become one of the hottest properties in Ligue 1 since joining the Matmut Atlantique outfit from Corinthians in 2016. His seven goals in 19 appearances make him the club’s top goalscorer this season.
