Celtic outraged as Rangers’ Clement gains big nomination

Celtic fans ‘surprised’ that Brendan Rodgers isn’t included in the SFWA Award for Manager of the Year clearly haven’t noticed how rubbish Celtic have been this season, and despite things derailing horribly the past 6+ weeks for Rangers, Ibrox manager Philippe Clement has 69 points since October, overhauling Celtic’s lead in the title race for good measure.

Hence the Rangers boss is nominated alongside Docherty, McGlynn and McInnes for the award.

That things have gone south since April doesn’t undo, overall, what had been achieved in the first 5 or 6 months since Clement’s arrival, including a League Cup triumph inside a few weeks or getting the job.

Celtic have found a speck of form the past 4 weeks, yes, but to give Rodgers manager of the year based on that would be absurdly ludicrous.

Does Clement deserve the nomination – yes he does.

Ibrox Noise readers know we don’t much trust him these days and we’ve been very negative about his decisions and leadership since late March – we stand by that.

But we’ve also emphasised many times that up TILL then, up till ‘that’ 3-3, we really were buying into him and trusting him, and the results matched that trust, given we’d overturned Celtic’s lead.

THAT is what the nomination is for, his performance from October to late March, even if lately it’s bottomed away.

Rodgers in the same period was mince, and clearly doesn’t deserve a nomination.

Stuart McCall was asked about this:

“If you go back to the game Rangers had at Ross County, if they were to have won that, they’d be sitting level going into this game and Clement’s already got a trophy. As much as Brendan Rodgers can go on and do a double, and he looks favourite for the league, Clement can go on and do the treble. There’s not a lot in it. I can see why he’s there.”

It’s really not that complicated. In truth, neither manager has truly covered themselves in total glory overall this campaign, but Clement edges it.

Pity it crashed so bad recently.
