Centre-back is a priority position for Liverpool heading into the summer transfer window and the club will discuss a shortlist of options with incoming boss Arne Slot in the coming weeks.

Slot is set to be named as Jurgen Klopp’s successor after the Reds agreed a compensation package with Feyenoord for the 45-year-old, and attention will soon turn to recruitment.

An addition in central defence is high on the club’s wish list, with Joel Matip set to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Joe Gomez has featured primarily at full-back across the last two seasons and an extra centre-back is a priority, despite the emergence of Jarell Quansah.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool will sit down with Slot to discuss potential options in the coming weeks.

One name who could be an option is Lutsharel Geertruida and the Feyenoord vice-captain was in attendance for Liverpool 2-2 draw at West Ham at the weekend. Though the 23-year-old features predominantly at right-back, he has also operated in central defence and in midfield.

Sporting Lisbon pair Goncalo Inacio and Ousmane Diomande, each of whom have release clauses with the Portuguese league leaders, have also been mentioned as potential options, as have Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapié, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Ko Itakura and Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo.

The latter will be available as a free agent after informing Fulham that he will seek a new challenge when his contract expires in the summer. Tottenham and West Ham are also keen on a potential deal for the 26-year-old.
