Cody Gakpo admits he's 'curious' as to what kind of impact incoming head coach Arne Slot might make at Liverpool.

Slot, 45, is currently in charge of Feyenoord, seemingly waving goodbye to his club’s supporters following his penultimate home game in charge on Sunday, a 5-0 win against PEC Zwolle.

He signs off with an Eredivisie title to his name, won last season, as well as this season’s edition of the KNVB Beker (Dutch cup).

The former midfielder is a two-time Dutch coach of the year and comes to Anfield with a burgeoning reputation as an improver of players and a purveyor of attacking football.

Details over a compensation deal between Liverpool and Feyenoord are reported to have been worked out, with the Reds paying around £10 million for the coach and up to two members of his backroom team.

He will be in place in the off-season and one of Liverpool’s growing Dutch contingent is looking forward to his arrival.

Arne Slot Feyenoord

Cody Gakpo has history with Slot; the 25-year-old was PSV’s club captain when they were beaten 4-0 at home by Slot’s Feyenoord side back in 2021.

He describes the incoming Reds boss as a ‘very good coach’ but insists that the focus on Merseyside is wrapping up the league season and seeing out Klopp’s hugely successful term as manager.

Gakpo: Slot is a 'very good coach'

The German has been in charge at Anfield for nine years, winning the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup and other honours throughout his tenure.

“To be honest, I have never worked with him,” Gakpo said of Slot. "I know, of course, that he is a very good coach who has shown it at AZ Alkmaar and at Feyenoord too.

“Of course, we played against [his Feyenoord] a few times, they were often difficult games. I am very curious and I think we are all very much looking forward to it.

“The focus at the moment is not there yet and is now on finishing the last two games well, for ourselves, for the club, for the coach, and then we will look further at the new coach.”
