Monday night’s 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United made it four wins and a draw in Palace’s last five matches.

The Eagles are 14th in the Premier League and unlikely to finish in the top-half this term.

But left wing-back Mitchell believes the growth the team are showing could lead to a European tilt next season in the first full campaign under boss Oliver Glasner.

“Hopefully we can,” he said. “That would be a dream come true. It’s just about winning as many games [as possible].”

Mitchell said of Glasner: “He’s shown us a clear plan, a clear vision, of what he wants from us. Thankfully, it’s working.

“In training we’re doing a lot of work, and it’s showing on the pitch. We’re able to maintain a good fitness level throughout the whole game, so the training is transferring onto the pitch. It’s very intense.”

A number of Palace players have admitted that the intensity of training has ramped up since Glasner took over from Roy Hodgson in February.

Palace front three Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Jean-Philippe Mateta have forged strong chemistry on the pitch, and Mitchell hailed their impact.

“Amazing, every game they’re a threat,” he said. “Every game they are getting goals or assists. It’s a dream to play with them.”

“He is a quality player”, Mitchell said of Olise, who scored twice in the 4-0 win over United.

“You can see that he’s a talent. He’s a gifted footballer. We know that from training and from last season.”

Marc Guehi appeared off the bench on Monday night as he made his return after three months out with a knee injury.

“I’ve been in the stands, watching every single game, so I've been watching from afar”, he said of his Palace team-mates. “I'm just glad the team's been doing well. It's really good to see.”

Palace face Wolves at Molineux on Saturday before hosting Aston Villa at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.
