Darwin Nunez has removed all Liverpool related posts from his Instagram account, perhaps due to significant criticism he has received on social media for his recent performances.

The Uruguayan hasn't started the last few games and came off the bench during Liverpool's 4-2 win over Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

The forward wasn't overly impressive during the weekend victory, squandering a few promising opportunities, but he once again found himself heavily involved in Liverpool's attacking play.

However, recent displays have often left a lot to be desired, and Nunez is now without a goal since the 3-1 win over Sheffield United in early April.

As a result, Nunez has faced plenty of criticism online, with social media so often the breeding ground for disgraceful abuse aimed directly at individual players.

Such acts are completely unjustifiable and Nunez has now responded on Instagram.

His account is still active and has pictures of his family, as well as posts related to the Uruguay national team and his previous clubs. However, all Liverpool posts have been removed for the time being.

His Liverpool posts on X (formerly Twitter) are still active, though.

It's incredibly sad to see a player feel the need to take such action, with no player deserving any online abuse from the club's 'fans'.

Nunez has still had an impressive season for the Reds regardless of recent form, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in all competitions.

But such a reaction is unlikely to stop rumours circulating over the forward's future, with recent reports suggesting that the 24-year-old could leave Anfield this summer.

With Arne Slot coming into replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, Nunez should be offered a fresh start under the Dutch coach, while he also has a summer of Copa America action to look forward to.
