Emre Can (30) is set to start and captain Borussia Dortmund when they face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, however, he could easily have been starting on the opposite side, as he told L’Équipe.

Borussia Dortmund made the semi-finals thanks to a win over Atletico Madrid in the quarters, whilst PSG beat Barcelona, overturning a first-leg deficit in Catalunya. Eden Terzić’s men stand in the way of a first appearance in the Champions League final for Les Parisiens since 2020.

Can will be a key player in Borussia Dortmund’s midfield, however, he could easily have been lining up for Luis Enrique’s side. In an interview with L’Équipe, he revealed that he had talks with PSG on two occasions, in 2018, when he left Liverpool on a free transfer, and in 2020 when he left Juventus to join Borussia Dortmund.

“I almost signed on two occasions but in the end, there wasn’t an agreement,” said Can, who will be looking to make PSG rue their inability to get a deal over the line on Wednesday.
