Manchester United were always going to undergo a huge overhaul in the summer window but not many thought it would include a manager as well.

Erik ten Hag’s side continue stumbling from one collapse to another and it has made his position tenuous.

Add to that the persistent links with Ajax and Bayern Munich, and the beleaguered manager suddenly has a strong hand should United relieve him in the summer.

The Peoples Person recently relayed a report that Ten Hag was on the shortlist for Bayern and he was “ready” to move to Germany if United were to sack him.

Now, ESPN reports that while he still remains on Bayern’s radar and his representatives have been in touch with the Bundesliga giants, his preference is to stay at United.

The Dutchman wants to continue on the project he took up two years ago and with INEOS finally creating a settled structure around him, prefers stability.

In a sentence that nobody thought was possible a few years ago, Bayern are arguably a much more unsteady environment for a coach to walk in right now.

Thomas Tuchel has been in open conflict with Uli Hoeness over the latter’s public comments about Tuchel not developing players despite the team facing a crunch UCL semifinal clash.

Before him, Julian Nagelsmann was sacked in remarkable circumstances and their own boardroom has seen a glut of changes recently.

Even their head coach search has been a mess, with rejections coming from multiple candidates so there’s a chance that Ten Hag is a candidate far lower on their priority pole than is being reported.

Keeping all that in mind, it is not a big surprise that Ten Hag is looking forward to the optimism of working in a settled structure that should be in place by the summer window.

Maybe INEOS think the same because he has been sounding increasingly confident of being given the next season to prove himself.
