Everton defender Weir sustains ACL injury | OneFootball

Everton defender Kenzie Weir has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The 20-year-old has been away on loan at SWPL 1 club Glasgow City but she has now returned to Merseyside ahead of schedule.

Weir was last in action for Glasgow City on Sunday when they took on Hibernian at Petershill Park. The youngster sustained an injury in the 44th minute of the match and had to be replaced by Joanne Love. Weir’s injury has now been fully-assessed and Glasgow City have confirmed that the player has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

It has been reported that Weir will undergo surgery before beginning her rehabilitation back with parent club Everton.

Weir has come through the Everton youth system and she made her senior debut for the club in an Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town in January 2022. The defender has gone on to add four more senior appearances to her tally.

With first team minutes in short supply, Weir has gained experience away from Everton in the last 18 months. She spent time with Lewes in the second half of last season before moving to Glasgow City this term.

Weir is expected to be sidelined until the second half of the 2024/2025 season.
