Everton v Liverpool – Premier League Preview

After a bounce back victory at Fulham this past Sunday afternoon, the reds will now head over Stanley Park on Wednesday evening, where relegation haunted Everton wait for the local derby. This historic rivalry and specific encounter are more critical than at any point in the Jürgen Klopp era, given the very different goals set out by the neighbouring foes.

The Everton Availability

In terms of availability, Nathan Patterson, Dele Alli, Beto, Lewis Dobbin, and the legendary Seamus Coleman, are ruled out for this game under the lights, whereas Dominic Calvert-Lewin faces a late fitness test.

Regarding recent form, the Toffees recorded a very controversial 2-0 victory at the weekend, where a raft of poor decisions went against visiting Nottingham Forest. A humiliating 6-0 loss was endured at Stamford Bridge the week prior, as Chelsea had their way with Sean Dyche’s men. A 1-0 win at home to Burnley and impressive 1-1 draw away to Newcastle preceded that west London thumping, which makes the hosts form somewhat varied. After 33-games played, Everton have accrued 30-points and sit just five points above the relegation places in 16th position in the Premier League.

A predicted line up for the home team is listed below, in a 4-2-3-1 formation. A dogmatic and resilient approach will be undertaken, with a desire to frustrate the reds.

GK – Jordan Pickford

RB – Ben Godfrey

RCB – James Tarkowski

LCB – Jarrad Branthwaite

LB – Vitaliy Mykolenko

CDM – Idrissa Gueye

CM – Amadou Onana

ACM – Abdoulaye Doucouré

RW – Dwight McNeil

CF – Dominic Calvert-Lewin

LW – Jack Harrison

The Liverpool Availability

In terms of injures, Thiago Alcântara remains on the Anfield missing list and is unlikely to play for Liverpool again. Joël Matip has sustained a season ending ACL injury, one that may have seen him play his last game for the club also. Diogo Jota has endured yet another setback and is noted as being unavailable for the next two weeks.

Regarding recent form, a strong 1-3 weekend win over Fulham followed a 0-1 win at Atalanta, one which was preceded by a 1-0 home loss to Palace. That tricky period came after the disastrous 0-3 Europa League first leg loss to Atalanta, also at Anfield. After 33-games played, Liverpool have amassed a superb 74-point total and sit 2nd in the table.

Below is the team I believe the reds German manager will start at Goodison Park, with a desire to overwhelm from the outset. Some rotation will be needed, with a trip to West Ham at Saturday lunch time to come.

GK – Alisson Becker

RB – Trent Alexander Arnold

RCB – Jarell Quansah

LCB – Virgil van Dijk (c)

LB – Joe Gomez

RCM – Dominik Szoboszlai

CDM – Waturu Endō

LCM – Alexis Mac Allister

RF – Luis Díaz

CF – Darwin Núñez

LF – Mohamed Salah

How Will This Contest Play Out

I must believe that the reds will now have the fight and desire to make that final charge, as aspirations of a Premier League title still linger. Everton will look to be resilient, however, some renewed fire and local bad flood should see the more dangerous team over the Merseyside line.

Player to watch – Trent Alexander Arnold

Score Prediction;

Everton 1 – 2 Liverpool
