The legendary Argentine is delighted to see another enigmatic figure back out on the field, with the Swedish striker having recovered from injury.
Zlatan Ibrahimović’s return to action at Manchester United has been hailed by Diego Maradona, with the Swede told: “Football was waiting for you”.
The enigmatic frontman has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in April.
Having been forced to undergo surgery, it has been a long road to recovery for the 36-year-old frontman.
He has, however, shown enough to earn a new deal at Old Trafford and was welcomed back into the fold by José Mourinho during United’s 4-1 win over Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday.
Argentine legend Maradona is among those delighted to see Ibrahimović back out on the field after he featured as a substitute against Newcastle.
The veteran striker maintained throughout his rehabilitation that he would return, and that he would be stronger than ever.
He now has the chance to deliver on those promises, with United welcoming added competition within their ranks.
Ibrahimovic scored 28 times for the club last season as the Red Devils secured three pieces of silverware under Mourinho.
Replicating those efforts will be tough, but 1986 World Cup winner Maradona is clearly looking forward to seeing a modern-day icon face that challenge head on.
