Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has made the bold claim that Jurgen Klopp's lack of silverware at Liverpool could take the pressure off Arne Slot should the Reds hire the Feyenoord coach.

Liverpool are currently in negotiations with Feyenoord over a compensation package for their coach Slot, who is now almost guaranteed to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

The 45-year-old could be named Liverpool manager before the end of the weekend and may well set the Reds back in the region of €13m.

There has been a mixed reaction to news of Slot's imminent appointment but Simon Jordan believes that Klopp's relatively 'small trophy haul' at Anfield may make life easier for the incoming Dutchman.

SIMON JORDAN'S BOLD JURGEN KLOPP STATEMENT

Speaking on Talksport, Jordan responded to comments about Klopp's final season at Liverpool 'petering out', stating: "It is but that is an advantage for Arne Slot that maybe he can capitalize on."

He added: "But that's the thing, when we were analysing it, we were looking at Klopp and his record, and this huge noise. I'm a huge admirer of Klopp, but this huge noise isn't quite backed up by a huge trophy haul."

Liverpool have won every trophy on offer bar the Europa League since Klopp's arrival and would have had a lot more if it wasn't for a Manchester City side currently facing 115 Premier League charges for allegedly breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Klopp may not have won as many trophies during his time at Liverpool as the likes of Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley, but he has transformed a club that was in a difficult place upon his arrival.

Slot will have his work cut out to follow in Klopp's footsteps, but he certainly has a better foundation from which to build than Klopp did when he arrived in 2015.
