Gianluigi Buffon’s future as a professional will be decided in the next few weeks, with the goalkeeper contemplating staying at Juventus for another season.

It had been thought that the 39-year-old would hang up his gloves at the end of the current campaign, with Wojciech Szczęsny taking his place as the Old Lady’s number one.

However, Corriere dello Sport have reported that the veteran keeper has intimated that could stay on for 18 more months.

Buffon’s original intention was to retire after the World Cup, but with Italy having failed to qualify, the Azzurri legend is pondering on whether to carry on for the 2018/19 season.

The Italian paper has claimed that Buffon wants to have another shot at the Champions League and break Paolo Maldini’s Serie A appearance record.

The AC Milan hero finished his career on 647 appearances, whilst Buffon is currently on 619.

A meeting between the goalkeeper and the Juve president, Andrea Agnelli, is set for some time in the next month.
