“He seems to have no clue” – Former Blue criticises 23-year-old attacker | OneFootball

Former Chelsea player Frank Leboeuf believes Mykhailo Mudryk doesn’t understand how to play with his team-mates.

Mudryk arrived at Stamford Bridge from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023,  in a deal worth an initial £62.5m, following a very public transfer saga with Arsenal.

The 23-year-old was one of a number of new faces that arrived at the club during that window as Chelsea overhauled their squad.

The winger has found life difficult in west London, and despite showing brief glimpses of the talent he has, he’s too often drifted through games without making an impact.

Saturday’s match against Aston Villa was a tough one for Mudryk, who didn’t have a good game, and he even had a shot from the edge of the area that hit the corner flag.

World Cup winner Leboeuf doesn’t think the winger is capable of playing in a team, following his struggles since his arrival at the club.

“It’s been a while now and it works for his country because he’s been scoring goals with his country, [but] it doesn’t work with Chelsea”, he told ESPN.

“He goes fast, but he seems to lose it, he seems to have no clue how football can be played together with all his teammates.

“He has a feeling. Subconsciously, he has something, maybe a gift, but it’s like he never learned to play with his teammates.”

The 56-year-old’s assessment of Mudryk is damning but you can see where he’s coming from, as a number of times this season the Ukraine international has looked totally lost out on the pitch.

Mudryk is on a long term contract at Stamford Bridge, and the club reportedly fully believe in him, but nearly 18 months in there hasn’t been any real signs of improvement.

He will be with Ukraine at the Euros this summer and will need to hit the ground running, as next season could be make or break for his Chelsea career.
