After sacking Liam Rosenior on Tuesday, Hull City are plotting a move for Coventry City manager Mark Robins, according to Football Insider.

Hull target Robins

Football Insider sources have revealed that Robins is on the Tigers' shortlist to replace Rosenior, and club representatives are set to contact the Sky Blues manager's representatives.

Robins is currently under contract with the Sky Blues until the summer of 2027, after signing a four-year deal in 2023, and guided the club to the 2024 FA Cup semi-final, where they were defeated on penalties by Manchester United.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali revealed in an interview with BBC Radio Humberside that he dismissed Rosenior after the pair had a disagreement over the side's playing style.

Rosenior sacking was met with mixed reaction

The Tigers' decision to dismiss Rosenior of his duties was met with a mixed reaction, with some supporters left bemused by Ilicali's decision to fire the manager, while others understood the owner's decision.

Rosenior became Tigers boss in November 2022, and guided the side to safety, as they finished 15th at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, and at the end of his first full season in charge of the club, Hull finished in seventh position and three points behind the play-off spots.

The argument could be made that the former Derby County boss did well with the Tigers, taking them from the bottom half of the table to the cusp of the top-six.

However, some fans will make the argument that Rosenior should have guided his team into the play-offs due to the quality among the Tigers' squad, such as Fabio Carvalho, who joined the Yorkshire outfit on loan from top-flight giants Liverpool in January.

Rosenior's Tigers squad also boasted the likes of Jaden Philogene-Bidace, who has attracted interest from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, according to TeamTalk.

Robins difficult to lure from Coventry

Since becoming Sky Blues boss for the second time in 2017, Robins has done a stellar job and has overseen two promotions.

The Sky Blues won promotion to League One in 2018, after beating Exeter City 3-1 in the League Two play-off final, courtesy of goals from Jordan Willis, Jordan Shipley and Jack Grimmer.

The Midlands outfit were at it again by 2020, when they earned promotion from League One to the Championship, after finishing top of the table in a shortened 2019/20 season.

After retaining their Championship status at the end of the 2020/21 campaign with a 16th place finish, Robins guided the Sky Blues to a top-half finish in 2021/22 before taking the club to the 2023 Championship play-off final.

Remarkably, the 54-year-old then guided his team to the FA Cup semi-final in which they were denied victory in dramatic circumstances as they thought they had won the game 4-3 at the death, but Victor Torp's 121st minute strike was disallowed due to a tight offside call against Haji Wright.

Robins has been on an incredible journey with the Sky Blues, but he may feel as though he has unfinished business with the club who he took very close to the Premier League in 2023.

The Tigers may have a tough task on their hands trying to lure Robins away from the Sky Blues who he has enjoyed so much success with over the years.

Hull alternative appears to be Tim Walter

Robins might be an ambitious domestic target on the radar of the Tigers, but there is an alternative emerging as something of a favourite to replace Rosenior at the moment.

Tim Walter has been linked with the job across the last 48 hours and, according to a report from Sky Deutchsland early on Thursday, he is "about to sign" as the new Tigers boss.

Whilst nothing is confirmed yet, it appears he is a far more attainable target for Hull than Robins as they move into a new era after Rosenior's near miss in 2023/24.
