Ipswich, Luton and Fulham interested in Coventry City star

Having missed out on the Championship play-offs this season, it is back to the drawing board for Coventry City.

Despite losing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer last summer, the Sky Blues did not miss out on the top six by too much this season, and no doubt challenging for a play-off spot in 2024/25 will again be the aim for Mark Robins' side.

Unfortunately for the Sky Blues, however, it looks as though they may have to deal with further departures, with one of their key players said to be on the radar of a number of clubs heading into the summer.

Three clubs keen on Ben Sheaf

The player in question is midfielder Ben Sheaf, who has been linked with three sides that could all be playing their football in the Premier League next season.

According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, with Coventry having missed out on promotion, Sheaf is now a wanted man this summer, with Ipswich Town, Luton Town and Fulham all having varying degrees of interest in the 26-year-old.

In fact, Nixon reports that Nixon turned down the chance to join Luton during the last transfer window, but that has not stopped the Hatters showing an interest once again this summer.

Interestingly, whether or not Luton maintain their Premier League status or drop to the Championship is not said to affect their interest, although, one would assume they would stand a better chance of snapping Sheaf up were they a top-flight side once again.

Another side also keen on Sheaf are Ipswich Town, who will certainly be playing their football in the Premier League next season.

The Tractor Boys sealed automatic promotion on the final day of the Championship season yesterday with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Elsewhere, Fulham scouts are said to be casting eyes on Sheaf, but Nixon reveals he is only a possible option for the Cottagers, suggesting he is not a priority for them at this stage.

Ben Sheaf's Coventry City contract

Of course, any club who are wanting to sign Sheaf this summer will have to come up with a transfer fee that Coventry City are satisfied with.

This will be no easy feat either given that Sheaf has multiple years left on his deal.

Were he to have just the one year left, clubs may have been able to get themselves a bargain, but, the fact that Sheaf is contracted at the CBS Arena until 2026 should protect Coventry City from such an eventuality.

Sheaf interest unsurprising

The fact clubs are showing an interest in the Sky Blues midfielder at last is rather unsurprising given the season he is having.

Sheaf has been an increasingly influential part of the Sky Blues midfield this season, often captaining the side during the second half of the campaign when fit.

Sheaf's performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup at Wembley, broadcasted to a national audience, also put him firmly 'in the shop window' with a strong showing against the Red Devils.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Sheaf ends up at any of the above three clubs this summer, or indeed if further teams decide he could be an asset to their side and make a move.
