Today, 7 May 2024, marks the fifth anniversary of one of the greatest comebacks in Champions League and football history.

Liverpool looked for all the world to be heading out Europe when they were beaten 3-0 by Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

But Anfield wasn't giving up that easily, and an early goal from Divock Origi in the second leg gave Jürgen Klopp's side a glimmer of hope.

Barcelona had chances to increase their lead but failed to take them, and suddenly, a quick-fire brace from Gini Wijnaldum early in the second half got Liverpool back level at 3-3 in the tie.

The best was yet to come, however. In the 79th-minute, a quickly taken corner kick by Trent Alexander-Arnold landed at the feet of Origi, who scored his second of the night to complete a remarkable comeback.

The Reds won 4-3 and went on to beat Tottenham - who themselves had pulled off a similarly epic comeback over Ajax in their semi-final - in the final in Madrid.

That season will be remembered as Liverpool's finest of the Klopp era.
