Lionel Messi has a catalogue of goals to rival any player in the history of the game, so it is little surprise he is also the holder of one of the best-ever Champions League free-kicks.

It came in the first-leg of Barcelona’s epic semi-final clash with Liverpool at Camp Nou on this day in 2019.

The  Argentine had already scored once, doubling Barça’s lead after Luis Suárez had bitten the hand that once fed him in the first-half.

However, it would be his second in the 82nd minute that would steal the headlines.

Liverpool’s wall and keeper Alisson could do absolutely nothing as Messi curled home a stunning 25-yard free-kick to put his side in a commanding 3-0 lead.

It was also his 600th goal for the club he made his own in a 17-year stint.

Of course, six days later, Jürgen Klopp’s men pulled off the impossible, winning 4-0 at Anfield to deny the Blaugrana, but you still can’t help marvel at the magic of Messi.
