Michael Owen has bemoaned Liverpool’s inability to take their chances and insisted that it is the issue that will go on to cost them the Premier League title this season.

Liverpool lost their first Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park since 2010 when they went down 2-0 on Wednesday night.

The Reds’ hopes of winning the Premier League title in Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season suffered another blow and they could now end the campaign with only the EFL Cup.

Owen conceded that it was frustrating to watch Liverpool as they missed so many opportunities to score and could have won the game.

The former striker admitted that the same issue has been affecting the team for the last few games and thinks it has been their biggest problem this season.

The former Liverpool star said on Premier League Productions: “Really frustrating tonight.

“They definitely had the chances to win the game; hats off to Everton as they defended really well and took their chances when they had them.

It’s the same problem for Liverpool in the last few games.

“You can’t finish your chances then you are going nowhere and this has been their Achilles heel for me.”

Liverpool will be travelling to the capital on Saturday when they will take on West Ham at the London Stadium.
