Speaking to MagentaTV (via @iMiaSanMia), Julian Nagelsmann has responded to Max Eberl’s claim about why he did not replace Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich’s new manager.

Eberl had previously said that he believes the sting of being sacked from his last tenure at Bayern still runs deep and was the reason for turning down the chance of returning to Bayern and instead signing a new contract as Germany’s head coach.

When asked about this comment, Nagelsmann said: “When I became a professional coach, it was clear to me that you would also be fired. You have to take that into account. It is normal for the person who is dismissed to want a different kind of job. There is no sting deep, the decision was for the DFB. I scanned my body yesterday, I didn’t feel a sting.”

Nagelsmann then gave insight on one reason why he decided to extend his contract: “Rudi Völler is an important advocate for me, also fought for me, often called me. Of course, he is also a man with extreme experience, who, like a father figure, is also there for the entire coaching team.”

Bayern’s search for a new coach continues after Nagelsmann and Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso both turned them down to stay at their current job. It currently looks as if Ralf Rangnick will be the man to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer after his exploits with Austria at the Euros.
