You won’t need to remind Real Madrid or Bayern Munich fans of the brilliance of Toni Kroos but even by his standards, his first half in the Champions League semi-final second leg is worth mentioning.

Real have mostly dominated possession and, as usual, the 34-year-old has been the conductor, dropping deep to take the ball in a quarter-back type role.

The stats back it up with Kroos being omnipresent across the first 45 minutes. At times it feels like he is playing a one-two with the game itself such are his passing numbers.

Kroos, who left Bavaria for Madrid 10 years ago this summer, will be looking to make a staggering sixth Champions League final with victory over his old club.

His performance also bodes extremely well for German boss Julian Nagelsmann ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

Can we expect more in the second half?
