According to Spanish outlet ABC, the Foxes are planning to sell the midfielder in order to raise funds in the transfer market.

The 25-year-old has been with Leicester since the summer of 2021, signing from French side Lille for a reported £17 million.

But he departed the King Power Stadium last year following the club’s relegation to the Championship, moving to La Liga on loan for the campaign.

He has earned praise for his performances in the Spanish top flight, having made 25 appearances for Sevilla in the league (all stats from Fbref).

Leicester’s Boubakary Soumaré transfer stance

It has been claimed that Sevilla are unable to afford making the player’s loan move permanent this summer.

The two clubs agreed a €15 (£12.9) million option to buy clause as part of the loan deal last summer.

However, the Spanish side is set to miss out on European football for next season, which has made a dent in their ability to spend in the transfer market.

So it is expected that Soumaré will return to England once the Spanish top flight comes to an end for this term later this month.

However, it is believed that Leicester intend to cash in on Soumaré this summer following his positive performances for Sevilla.

It is understood that Enzo Maresca has no plans to use the Frenchman in his first team squad next year, with the club back in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee Leicester will accept, though it is likely to be in the region of the £12.9 million fee they agreed last year.

Soumaré’s contract runs until the summer of 2026, giving the Foxes some leverage in any negotiations.

However, their financial situation means they will be keen to cash in and raise funds by any means necessary.

Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League

Leicester sealed an immediate return to the Premier League by clinching the Championship title with a couple of game spare.

Maresca’s team finished one point clear of Ipswich Town in second and seven clear of Leeds United in third.

A supreme first half of the term proved crucial, as they suffered a dip in form in the second stage of the campaign.

A 3-0 win away to Preston North End sealed top spot, with the club now planning for life back in the Premier League next season.

Soumaré can be source of much-needed revenue

Leicester will likely need to raise money from player sales this summer despite the financial reward of promotion.

Selling players that were out on loan this season is a sensible option for the Foxes as they weren’t part of the team that helped them gain promotion anyway.

Soumaré has performed well in Spain and is sure to attract suitors for a permanent deal this summer, even if Sevilla can’t complete a move.

This will be some much-needed revenue for the club, and can help ease the pressure on their financial situation as they look to comply with the league’s finance rules.
