Here’s our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday 4th May, 2024. Jurgen Klopp has given a guarantee to his successor as manager.

It's that awful period of the season where nothing is really happening. Liverpool essentially have nothing to play for (it would take a miracle to get back in the title race) while Jurgen Klopp's impending exit means there's no feeling anything can progress over the final three games.

That exit will dominate the summer, of course, and Klopp did address it again this week. He had a promise, of sorts, for his successor, while that likely replacement reportedly had a request for Liverpool.

On top of that, the Reds are supposedly in the race for Teun Koopmeiners - but have fierce competition there.

Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday.

Klopp's promise to successor

Arne Slot is expected to become the next Liverpool manager, replacing the departing Jurgen Klopp.

Jurgen Klopp has made a promise to his successor at Liverpool. It will likely be Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, of course.

Jurgen Klopp promises Liverpool's next manager that he'll share his knowledge of the club when the time comes. Klopp will step down as the Reds' boss after this season, leaving him with just three games in charge.

The German was asked this week whether he'd be willing to hand out advice to his successor, who is yet to be confirmed. It will likely be Arne Slot, of course, with the Dutchman openly discussing the prospect while still manager of Feyenoord.

Arne Slot Marino Pusic

Arne Slot has asked Liverpool for some players this summer - and two of his names are reportedly now public.

CaughtOffside reports that Arne Slot has made some transfer requests of Liverpool. The Dutchman is widely expected to take over as Jurgen Klopp's successor.

In fact, Slot has publicly talked about Liverpool's approach and admits he wants it finalised. It would certainly be a shock if things didn't go through at this stage.

Things have gone as far as Slot being able to request transfer targets, it seems. CaughtOffside say there's a shortlist of sorts, and have even mentioned two names on it.

Both will be familiar to those who keep up with transfer rumours.

Liverpool only have a shot at signing Teun Koopmeiners on one condition, according to reports in Italy. The Reds are in the race for the midfielder.

Juventus are leading the charge for Teun Koopmeiners, who will almost certainly leave Atalanta this summer. The Dutchman has publicly admitted that, for one thing.

“I told Atalanta I want to leave in the summer,” Koopmeiners told De Telegraaf in March.

Ruben Amorim and his agent Raul Costa have been slammed by one Portuguese journalist for their misguided flight to the United Kingdom, with the Sporting CP boss branded 'not mature enough' for a top job.

The 39-year-old was long considered the favourite for the Liverpool hot seat after Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen, but the Reds opted for Feyenoord's Arne Slot instead.

Liverpool were reportedly not pleased with Amorim's demands and attempts to put pressure on the club, with the Sporting manager visiting the United Kingdom to enter talks with West Ham United - a ploy to get a better deal from Liverpool.

Jose Mourinho

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has revealed the reason he would choose Jose Mourinho to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout instead of Arne Slot.

Liverpool's long search for Klopp's successor appears to have landed on Feyenoord manager Slot, who recently agreed a deal with the Reds to take charge of the club next season.

Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso and Sporting CP's Ruben Amorim were the two previous front-runners for the Liverpool hot seat, but the former committed his future to the German club and the latter was rejected by the Reds.

Fabio Carvalho knows he’s still a part of the plans at Liverpool, despite a strange season with two loan spells.

Fabio Carvalho is enjoying his time at Hull City - and a good thing, too. The playmaker's time with RB Leipzig to start the campaign was a disaster, with well under 200 minutes in the Bundesliga across five months.

Few could have even imagined that he'd play so little. It was bad enough that Liverpool cancelled the loan deal ahead of the January transfer window and immediately searched for a new one.
