Liverpool have made Feyenoord manager Arne Slot their number one target to succeed Jürgen Klopp this summer, and have begun negotiations with the Eredivisie club.

That’s according to both The Athletic’s David Ornstein and The Times’ Paul Joyce on Wednesday, who both report that Liverpool have accelerated their interest in Slot following Feyenoord’s KNVB Cup final victory over NEC at the weekend.

Contact is understood to have been made with the 45-year-old coach, with the Reds also said to be negotiations with Feyenoord CEO Dennis te Kloese.

But the Merseyside club will reportedly continue to assess other candidates for the soon-to-be-vacant managerial role at Anfield, meaning Slot is not certain to be Klopp’s replacement this summer.

After guiding Feyenoord to just a second Eredivisie title in 20 years last season, Slot was a target for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, but he turned the north Londoners’ advances down in favour of remaining at De Kuip.

He is renowned for an attacking style of football and has a good track record of developing young players, although his side currently trail PSV by nine points in this race for this year’s Eredivisie title.

Slot has no release clause and is under contract with Feyenoord until 2026.
