Manchester City’s owners the City Football Group are eyeing a move for Liverpool and Uruguay winger Luciano Rodriguez, with the 20-year-old on the list at Girona.

It is the latest in a relatively long list of exciting South American players being linked with a move to Girona and into the City Football Group portfolio, with Manchester City having talent on loan at the La Liga club.

This season has seen Savio excel during a temporary agreement with Girona whilst on loan from ESTAC Troyes, with his performances attracting interest from Manchester City, who have since reached an agreement over a summer transfer for the Brazilian winger.

City also have Yan Couto on loan at Girona this season, with the Brazil international full-back’s performances earning himself his first senior national team caps alongside the aforementioned Savio.

With Girona being viewed within the City Football Group as the best possible destination for top-level football within their portfolio, the Catalan club are now eyeing another emerging talent from the South American game and Liverpool Montevideo.

That is according to the information of Jack Gaughan, writing in the latest edition of MailSport’s Man City Notebook, who reports that Liverpool Montevideo and Uruguay winger Luciano Rodriguez is on Girona’s transfer shortlist ahead of the summer window.

It is further detailed that Dutch side Feyenoord were close to landing the 20-year-old last year, and are expected to rival Girona in the coming months, whilst Brazilian giants Palmeiras are also reportedly monitoring the forward.

In a boost to City Football Group’s hopes of recruiting the talent, MailSport go on to report that Luciano Rodriguez’s representative, Paulo Pitombeira of Talents Sports has ‘strong links’ with Manchester City and Girona’s parent company.

Speaking towards the end of March, Rodriguez addressed rumours of interest from Manchester City and the wider City Football Group, admitting that the attention was real, with the player’s representatives making him aware of such talk.

“My representative told me that there was interest from Manchester City,” Rodriguez explained. “The City Football group has several clubs around the world, but we will see what happens.”

Just days before those comments, a report from South America also claimed that the City Football Group’s director of football, Joan Patsy was in Buenos Aires ‘trying to close the signing’ of the wide-forward for June 2024.
