New Duncan McGuire twist after Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers transfer sagas

The Orlando City striker was a transfer target for both Wednesday and Rovers during the January transfer window, and Blackburn actually thought they'd got his signing over the line in the dying moments of the window, only for it to transpire that there was an administrative error with the paperwork.

This meant that the striker returned to Orlando, and he's continued to impress in the MLS this season, registering four goals in just nine games this season.

The 23-year-old also received his first call-up to the USMNT in January, and after making his international debut, his stock will continue to rise.

Transfer interest in Duncan McGuire

The Sheffield Star have reported that Duncan McGuire has been the subject of two transfer bids launched from unnamed clubs in Belgium and Germany, and his club Orlando City have also recently offered him a new contract, as they look to tie him down on a long-term basis.

This means that if one of Blackburn or Sheffield Wednesday want to sign him this summer, they're going to have to act fast, as McGuire isn't short of interest.

The 23-year-old has proven himself as a prolific goalscorer across the Atlantic, and his stock will only continue to rise, particularly if he performs well on the international stage.

Blackburn will be kicking themselves that they've missed out on McGuire's signing due to an error with the paperwork, and it remains to be seen if they'll rekindle their interest in the Nebraska-born forward this summer.

Wednesday, on the other hand, have reportedly remained observers of McGuire's progress since January, but no firm move has been made yet to try and bring him to Hillsborough this summer.

The Owls came close to signing McGuire in January, and the striker had even traveled to Sheffield to meet with club representatives, before Blackburn sold Adam Wharton, freeing up funds which allowed them to sign the striker, or so they thought.

It was a farcical transfer saga, and both Blackburn and Sheffield ended up missing out on their target, and any potential summer move will seemingly have to be done a lot earlier in the window thanks to European interest in the striker.

Duncan McGuire looks destined for European move this summer

Despite Orlando City offering Duncan McGuire a fresh contract, the player looks keen to leave the club, as shown by his desire to move to England in January.

It remains to be seen which clubs in Germany and Belgium are keen on signing him, but Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn will certainly face a tough battle to sign him, given they now have competition from the continent.

You certainly wouldn't blame the striker if he decided to give Blackburn a wide berth this summer after the way he was messed about by them in January, and perhaps Wednesday could capitalise on this.

Striker Ike Ugbo impressed for the Owls during the second-half of the season, and even if they are able to secure a permanent deal for him, there would still be scope for a permanent move for McGuire.

After all, Ugbo was signed in mid-January, and Danny Rohl's side continued to target the American international at the end of the month, showing that there was room for the pair of them.

It seems that the Duncan McGuire transfer saga could continue into the summer months, and this time with competition from European clubs.
