Manchester City cruised past Wolves to take one more step towards the Premier League title. Here is what we made of the affair at the Etihad.

Can we talk about Rodri?

Rodri has long been recognised as the best defensive midfielder, but the Spaniard is proving himself to be far more than just a shield for the City defence this season.

In the absence of Kevin De Bruyne for large stretches of the campaign, Rodri has surprised many in stepping up to fill the role of City’s creative hub.

The signing of Mateo Kovačić has perhaps aided Rodri in playing with more freedom, as the Croatian has been solid when stepping into midfield beside the 27-year-old.

After scoring the winner in the Champions League final for the Blues last season, it has become more than clear that Rodri can be any type of player you need him be.

In a team comprised of stars such as Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, and Erling Haaland, it still is no surprise to say that Rodri is by far Manchester City’s most important player.

Never stood a chance

While Wolves have perhaps been the Premier League’s surprise package under Gary O’Neil this season, a late-season trip to Etihad appeared to be too big of a task for the Molineux side to show some of the spark we’ve seen in stretches this campaign.

After conceding inside 15 minutes, it was always going to be an uphill climb, if not fully vertical for the Black Country side.

The good news for Wolves however, is they have shown signs of being a top-team, including a superb win away at Tottenham earlier in the year.

After doubts were cast on the Gary O’Neil hiring, leading some pundits to project them as potential relegation candidates, a comfortable mid-table finish should be seen as a roaring success.

Three to go

With an emphatic win Saturday afternoon, City are just three wins away from a record fourth straight Premier League title, a feat never accomplished before in the division.

Arsenal have looked imperious at times but history tells us that when City need to win their final (insert arbitrary number here) games to secure the Premier League title, they will do that by hook or by crook.

The one potential spanner in the works comes in the penultimate game of the campaign for City as they travel to London for a showdown with Tottenham Hotspur in a stadium where they have ever one once, and have only scored one goal.

If any slip is to come, its more than likely going to come in north London, coincidentally at the hands of Arsenal’s biggest rivals.

The real question is, if City win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to prevent Arsenal winning the league will the whole stadium celebrate? Could make for one awkward atmosphere.
